Recently, the polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hollow fiber membrane contactor technology developed by the team of researcher Cao Yiming of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been successfully applied in the project of removing high concentration of ammonia nitrogen from vanadium wastewater. Wastewater treatment capacity of 50t / d, the concentration of ammonia nitrogen in the influent water is 2000-5000mg / L, the design of the effluent ammonia nitrogen concentration of 10mg / L. The project was carried out by Dalian Institute of Chemical Technology (DICT).
The industrial project was completed by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and Nanjing Bidun New Membrane Technology Co., Ltd. which provided PTFE membrane modules and process design, Panzhihua Biyuan Technology is responsible for engineering design and manufacturing as well as on-site implementation.
After 72 hours of on-site operation, the concentration of ammonia and nitrogen in the effluent is stable at 2-7mg/L, which meets the national vanadium industry pollution emission standards (10mg/L) and sewage discharge national standard 1A (8mg/L) requirements, which is the first time in the world to use PTFE hollow fiber membranes in the field of vanadium and high ammonia and nitrogen wastewater industrial application of a successful model. Due to the excellent hydrophobicity and anti-pollution characteristics of PTFE membrane material, the process uses cheap lime instead of liquid alkali to adjust the pH value, which significantly reduces the operating costs. The system has the advantages of low energy consumption, high efficiency of ammonia removal, long membrane life, compact device and simple operation.
Cao Yiming researcher team developed the core technology of high performance PTFE hollow fiber membrane in 2012, which was successfully applied in Petronas’ international development and cooperation pilot project of natural gas de-CO2. The successful implementation of this system in high ammonia nitrogen wastewater treatment is another important breakthrough of PTFE hollow fiber membrane contactor technology in the field of application.
